My mama is the sweetest, funniest person
ever in life. I woke up yesterday
morning, and like any other morning, I went through my routine of taking a
bucket bath, brushing my teeth, doing my hair, etc., but when it came time to
get dressed, I had absolutely no idea what to wear. I am beyond bored with wearing the same thing
over and over and over and over again. I
try to mix and match everything, but there's only so much mixing and matching
you can do with the same 4 or 5 outfits.
I eventually decided on a pair of dark blue jeans, a black polo shirt,
and my infamous hiking shoes. Not really
"feeling myself" for the day, I just took a quick glimpse at my
reflection in the mirror and left my room to go and have breakfast. Like clockwork, as soon as I walked out of my
room, my mama smiled and gave me two thumbs up.
This meant she liked my outfit!! Yayy mee!! Without even knowing it, she
gave me just the mental boost I needed.
If mama approved, then I was a-okay!
But immediately after the thumbs up, my mama said
"umusore." I said,
"huh?" and then she repeated, "umusore" and made a flexing
motion with her arms. I cracked up at
this point. She was telling me that I
look/am buff. We both laughed and then
she said, "gato na umusore" (short and buff) haha! I found it so funny because my family and friends
back home would say the same thing. In
high school my track and field friends used to call me midget hulk (yes I know, very mean) and this moment kind of brought
back some of my good old high school memories.
This lady has no idea how invaluable she has been for me during this
journey. She is definitely the third
angel that God has placed in my path so far.
Love and Peace Corps,
