I Was Counting My Blessings, but then I Lost Count... (Written 6/8/12, 9:09p)

We got our sites today!! Woot woot!!  All of the volunteers were nervous to find out where we would be placed and what our houses would look like, but for the most part we were very satisfied!  I got exactly what I prayed for!!!  I just want to take this time to say that the Lord just keeps on blessing me!  I can't thank Him enough for showering me down with blessing after blessing after blessing!!

My site is Kibondo and the district is Gatsibo.  Gatsibo District is located in NE Rwanda and is about two hours (or less) from Kigali.  My house is 9 miles from the main road Kayonza-Nyagatare (that tidbit is to orient any current Rwanda volunteers who would like to come and visit at some point in time).  The climate is warm (by Rwandan standards) with the hottest day rarely climbing beyond a temperature of 80oF.  The dry season is between June and August; it's not unusual for the area to run out of water during this time (a volunteer last year went about 3 days with no water).  My house is being rented and paid for by the health center I will be working for.  A fence is currently being built around the house, I have a site mate (less than a 1 hour walk away), I have my own latrine and bathing area (usually these are shared among a compound), my water source is about 32 feet away from my house, and here's the thing that really made my day...my house has ELECTRICITY!!  #1 on my list was fulfilled!! Glory to the King!!!  I don't know what I have done to deserve such favor, but I am happy the Lord feels I deserve it!  Just 3 more days until I get to see my new house for the next two years!! OhEmGee I'm soo excited!!!

Love and Peace Corps,

P.S. You can search "the Gatsibo District in Rwanda" for more information on the area.  Happy googling :)

    1. Yess!! I'm super excited, but I'll pretty much be working with any group of people that I choose to work with. I don't really have a specific "job" that I am learning, rather PC equips us with some tools and general ideas of projects that we can do within the community. With the information and training they give us, we design our own "job" or project and then we put it into place with the help of the health center staff and our supervisors...it's kind of complicated, but I hope that makes sense...imy btw!!
