Today after lunch I just happened to
have a sweet tooth and had to have
some candy. The cake here doesn't quite
cut it for me as it is just a semi-sweet bread and American candy is kind of
hard to come by so I ended up buying the only two things available in the
store. Flavored toffee and a "Mouth
Painter." The toffee was
delicious! It comes in different colors
and flavors: coconut, chocolate, cherry...it's basically a caramel type
soft-candy and just melts in your mouth--soooo very good! Now the Mouth Painter on the other hand, I
guess would be like a Blow Pop in America.
It tasted okay, however when I was walking down the street back to
class, openly indulging in my lolli, I was getting some pretty strange stares. I thought it was because you're not supposed
to eat anything in public so I just ignored everyone and continued to walk
along in my heavenly bliss. Before I
made it back to class, I saw my mom and Tamika's mom heading home from work and
so I went over to say hi. They were
talking and kind of chuckling here and there before they commented on my
lollipop. I didn't know what they were
saying so I just nodded and laughed too, but then they said something
else. The only words I understood were
lollipop and bebe. Apparently they were
trying to tell me that lollipops are for babies and so I just laughed with them
and said that I like lollipops. A little
bit after being laughed at (or with) I soon discovered why lollipops "are for babies." When I was about finished eating it and
finally made it to the middle, instead of gum being at the center, I was
greeted by the very unwelcome taste of...milk!
If you've ever had carnation milk, I'm sure you can imagine the
unpleasantness that overcame my taste buds, finding that that was at the center of my candy instead of cotton candy flavored
bubble gum...I am so done with "Mouth Painters." Yuck!
